    This is terrible! Why isn't action taken against the Police. They are behaving like gun happy thugs. Surely they aren't able to do that and walk away!

    I have many friends that are cops and good cops but this is inexcusable. Especially if the dog poses no threat. It should not be a first repsponse to shoot them. You can tell an aggressive dog from a passive one

      Of course a dog is going to be in a defensive mode when he senses a person(cop) is standing there threatening his life. I am sure the dog can smell the violence, and threat, and will act appropriately. Like I have been saying all along, people these days are just plain old KILL HAPPY... especially when it comes to animals. Makes me sick.

    This has been ongoing for the last 4 years. These cops do not care at all what happens to these dogs. They don't even get charges for doing this, they get a slap on the wrist and sent back out to work. How is this work? This is genocide of our dogs, this needs to end. I'm not saying all cops, but a majority of cops are crooked ill-trained and heartless. They need to be properly trained and re-eval psychologically. I feel that these cops don't need to be in any type of law enforcement or able to own a gun. This sickens me to know that I have to look over my shoulder every time I take my dog out. I live in Texas and down here "shudders" there is more shootings of dogs than anything, granted the cops in my town don't do this, But we do travel to other towns with our dog, to go into pet stores for toys and snacks for him to pick out. I look over my shoulder than. I shouldn't have too. Dogs are dogs, not killing machines and they should be seen as pets, not something that is dangerous. Enough is enough.

      I agree, I also live in TX and worry about police coming onto property. We have 10 acres. I rescue when I find an animal who needs a home, just can't help myself. We have 5 dogs, 4 of which are rescues and all stay inside. But when we're outside 3 of them are very possessive of their property and me, which they should be. I do not have children, all of my animals are my children (I have 7 rescue cats to, and 2 horses, and over 50 chickens). I do believe I would go to jail if someone, police or not, hurt any of them!!!

    Their first action to the appearance of an aggressive dog should be to taze them. The dog is usually defending his territory or afraid. Good cops have good sense. These are clearly not good cops.

    I'm so sorry for everyone who lost there dogs.mine were flash bombed by the cop in colorado springs I have a video on u-tube shows what they did 2 of my dogs were burned.they all are out of control.you can see the video called overkill or you can find it under chuck ball.I wish you all the best.if there is anything I can do to help please let me know.

    I am totaly discusted
    Where do these cops get off at being so stinken gun happy
    They where a uniform and badge to pertect not kill
    They need to face animal cruelty charges just like the other cold hearted animal abuser
    I dont know what i would do if that happen to me i think i would end up in jail because i would lose my mind and not realize what i did to the bastard that shot any of my pets
    wander how many people they shot because they dont know what else to do TAKE THERE DAM GUNS AWAY AND THEY CAN FIND ANOTHER JOB

    Okay, this is a knee-jerk story, or its what I call them; its very one-sided, and designed to get a knee-jerk reaction. While this is terrible and sad, there is NO PERSPECTIVE here from the police departments point of view. So, bear with me on this and let me point a few things out. Police do NOT know whether or not that dog running towards them, no matter the breed, have been trained to attack, and even those dogs who have not been trained to attack WILL defend their territory, even Labrador retrievers, the one dog that people hold up as the epitome of a sweet natured dog. I myself know that a dog, barking and running towards me, is enough to make me stop and stand still so that I am presenting as unaggressive a stance as possible...police go in in defensive mode when they are investigating a crime scene or call in, because they do NOT know what they will be encountering; and we have seen PLENTY of times where there is a very bad situation going on that warrants them being on the defensive; I mean, they are just like the rest of us, they want to live, too, ya know. This is one of those things that relates right back to the fact that some people train their dogs to be aggressive and then do NOT control them or post that there is an aggressive animal on the premises because those people do NOT want to follow the normal procedures that keep everyone else safe. Police deal with that day in, day out, so they are GOING TO shoot first and ask questions later when they see a dog running at them, barking,,or snarling and barking at them and acting aggressive, simply because the police HAVE been attacked before by dogs either trained to it, or dogs driven to it. Get a GRIP, people..

      So essentially if the police have not been trained to evaluate dog behavior they are justified in shooting any dog that they feel to be a threat? That is an outrageous and unjustifiable position. Quite a few of these dogs were killed while on tethers, leashed and being held or retrieved by their owners and in their own enclosed yards or pens. The police do not have the right to damage any other "property" that belongs to citizens; they certainly do not have the right to harm or kill our dogs simply because they do not have the training to use non-lethal methods or to do exactly what you described - stand still. Have a look at the pages and the actual accounts of what happened before you assume that any of these dogs was a threat to a particular law enforcement officer. We do not post cases on Dogs Shot by Police unless it is either clear or there is a good reason to believe that the law enforcement officer had non-lethal options that would have prevented any harm by the dog or the dog was not a threat at all.

    Mr. Policeman, a little food for thought...take a look at each and every name of a dog that was murdered by a policeman. For each one you left behind a trail of children with PTSD, some may not even realize it for days, weeks, months or even years. You have singled handedly sub- consciously removed all trust in law enforcement they may have had and taught them all about murder. You did not kill a murderer, robber, etc….but instead you killed a companion, a friend, someone they loved. Don’t be surprised if one day all of this comes back to haunt you and the only one to blame will be yourselves. Every time a child watches a video of a policeman shooting someone’s pet or talks about a policeman shooting someone’s pet, which with today’s technology will be every minute of every day, another child will develop PTSD. This is your legacy for the children of our future.
