Mother of two spared jail after letting dog die slow and painful death over six weeks by leaving it in locked toilet..

An unemployed alcoholic mother who locked her dog in a toilet and left it to die has walked free from court.
Laura Shaw, 23, abandoned her pet Lulu for six weeks, and has now been banned from keeping animals for the next 10 years.
Horrific images shown in court revealed how the animal was found covered in swarms of flies, surrounded by the empty food bowls it tried to eat.

Dogs Shot by Chester Cops
Police shoot two dogs to death in Chester and it's all caught on cell phone video. The police chief is investigating to see if proper procedure was followed as residents question why it happened.

A dog fight ended with a hail of bullets in a Philadelphia suburb, leaving residents shocked and looking for answers.
The incident started on Friday at around noon when a stray dog got into a pickup truck at a red light in Chester, Pa., and began fighting with another pooch, NBCPhiladelphia reported.
Cops were called when the dogs couldn't be separated, and when they arrived, witnesses were stunned at the reaction. One officer shot at the dogs five times with a pistol, then another fired one blast from a shotgun.
And this all went down right in front of Chester High School.
Chester police told NBCPhiladelphia that the incident was under investigation and at the time there the animal control officer in the city was unavailable.

It’s not illegal to eat dogs and cats in Switzerland – a fact that horrifies many pet lovers. Yet it remains rare, making people question the need for a ban or guidelines for slaughter practices.

When dog owners toss their canine companions a bully stick to chew on, they might not be aware that the popular treat could be packed with calories and contaminated with bacteria, researchers say. And pet owners might not even know that the stick is made from an uncooked, dried bull penis.
In a small study, researchers examined a sample of 26 bully sticks, also known as pizzle sticks, manufactured in the United States and Canada.

PLEASE sign this petition for CAPTAIN.

PETITION LINK: http://www.causes.com/causes/800778-justice-for-mary/actions/1727725
Captain was a two year old German Shepherd dog who was discovered on July 18, 2012 wrapped in a bloody sheet and left in a dumpster in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. When Captain was found he was emaciated, and had also been stabbed and brutally beaten with a heavy chain and baseball bat, being rendered quadriplegic and with brain hemorrhaging. Despite the best efforts of those caring for him, Captain passed away from cardiac arrest shortly after being rescued from the dumpster.

Brian Whitlock, Captain's owner, was charged with "wilfully causing unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury to an animal" contrary to Section 445.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. Captain suffered horribly at the hand of Brian Whitlock, who displayed absolutely no remorse for this crime as evidenced by the fact that he tossed Captain, who had been beaten, stabbed, and starved, but was still living, into a dumpster and then disappeared for days afterward. What was done to Captain cannot be described as anything but a violent offence, and prior to being charged with animal cruelty, Mr. Whitlock was also charged with criminal harassment. That Mr. Whitlock is charged with these two offences is a testament to the well-documented fact that those who abuse animals may also become violent toward humans and thus pose a risk to society. Therefore, we respectfully petition for the following:

That the honourable sentencing Judge in the Provincial Court of British Columbia apply the maximum penalty available under the law for this offence, which is 5 years in prison. That the court also, in accordance with Section 447.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada, "make an order prohibiting the accused from owning, having the custody or control of or residing in the same premises as an animal or a bird" for the rest of his lifetime. Further, that the court, in accordance with Section 447.1(1)(b), "on its own motion, order that the accused pay to a person or an organization that has taken care of an animal or a bird as a result of the commission of the offence [in this case, the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals] the reasonable costs that the person or organization incurred in respect of the animal or bird."

Please express your outrage at this unbelievable cruelty

SAN ANTONIO
PLEASE....read and share.
Please express your outrage at this unbelievable cruelty by emailing:
Please email San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro’s Chief of Staff at robbie.greenblum@sanantonio.gov

If you were walking down the sidewalk and saw a terrified dog with a rope noose around its neck being dragged across an asphalt street by a man, would you be outraged at the blatant cruelty?

What if you witnessed the same man drag not one but two dogs along the ground???

This is exactly what occurred on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 when Vincent Medley, San Antonio Animal Care Services Assistant Director, dragged frightened dogs from a home during a seizure.

Instead of bringing crates to the dogs, Medley and his sadistic employees utilized catch poles and rope nooses to parade the seized dogs in front of media cameras.

Watch the cruelty here:

http://www.foxsanantonio.com/newsroom/top_stories/videos/vid_13876.shtml

Medley noted in multiple media reports that ACS was aware of this neglect and cruelty case for months and even a year. Yet ACS still allowed the owner to continue to abuse and mistreat these poor dogs.

ACS has a documented history of abusive handling of animals under Medley’s leadership.

Accordingly, Medley needs to be fired and charged with animal cruelty.

Most likely, ACS will kill the seized dogs instead of releasing them to rescue. As long as the dogs are considered evidence in an ongoing investigation, it is easier for ACS to claim the dogs had “issues” that required immediate euthanasia instead of holding the dogs for the duration of the investigation.

Please email San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro’s Chief of Staff at robbie.greenblum@sanantonio.gov

Ask that the mayor instruct ACS Director Kathy Davis to charge Vincent Medley with animal cruelty and to immediately fire him.
Also ask the that the dogs be evaluated by an independent vet before euthanizing them.

AMERICA-More dogs have been shot and killed (18 known) by police than there are days in this New Year. Police are bringing the New Year in with a bang, and the public has had enough.
The public not only has to watch out for gunmen killing their children and family members, but now have to protect their family pets from the police that are servants of the public.

VICTORY - the Texas dog recovering after nose and lips are cut off..

Texas dog recovering after nose and lips are cut off.

A dog with severe facial injuries was taken in on Friday by the non-profit rescue organization, Austin Pets Alive!
The female, mixed breed dog, dubbed "Victory," somehow survived having her lips and her nose cut from her face.
According to Austin Pets Alive!, Victory was discovered on Jan. 8, wandering alone through a Hutto, Texas, subdivision.
Since her discovery, the Hutto Animal Control has been providing Victory with care. Her injuries, however, were too severe for them to continue providing her with what she needs to fully recover.
The agency reached out to Austin Pets Alive!, which sprang into action to transfer the injured dog to their care.
Victory's veterinary expenses are expected to run into the thousands.
Anyone hoping to donate towards her care can do so by clicking this link to Austin Pets Alive!
Anyone with information on this horrific case of animal cruelty is asked to call the Williamson County Crime Stoppers at (800) 253-STOP.
There is a reward offered for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of Victory's abuser.

The other Super Bowl: the Puppy Bowl

The other Super Bowl: the Puppy Bowl..

Many football fans will be getting ready for the Super Bowl next weekend between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. However there is another bowl game that kicks the day off, The Puppy Bowl.
This is great entertainment for families, football fans, and non- football fans alike. The Puppy Bowl started in February 2006 and has been going strong on Animal Planet. The game takes place in a model stadium with a human referee and commentators. The great thing about the event is that all of the puppies are from shelters and can be adopted. There are so many involved helping these puppies in need.

The program starts Feb. 3 at 3 PM on Animal Planet. 63 puppies will compete for the MVP (Most Valuable Puppy). If you miss the first airing they usually re- air the puppy bowl the rest of the day. The rosters and more information can be found on Animal Planet’s  Puppy Bowl page.  Which puppy will you be cheering for?
For more information on adoption, visit Petfinder.com.

Animal sanctuary to be built in memory of Sandy Hook shooting victim..

Animal sanctuary to be built in memory of Sandy Hook shooting victim.. Catherine Violet Hubbard.

I URGE ALL ANIMAL LOVING HUMANS TO HELP GET THIS ANIMAL SANCTUARY BUILT.
The family of one of the students killed during the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting is asking people to donate to build a new animal sanctuary in her name.

Plants for the sanctuary are still developing, so it is not yet known how big it will be or how many animals it could house. They hope to have it open within five years.
The Animal Center has received so many positive notes about the planned sanctuary that they have launched a dedicated Facebook page for the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, which as of this writing already has more than 1,100 likes.
Donations may be made through The Animal Center's website or by mail to The Animal Center, Attn: Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, PO Box 475, Newtown, CT  06470.

Catastrophic news regarding the street dogs in Bosnia and Herzegovina!

Catastrophic news regarding the street dogs in Bosnia and Herzegovina!

The ruling politicians from Bosnia are working hard to suspend the law from 2009 that is in the favor of street dogs and is prohibiting the collection and cruel killing of street dogs by municipal workers. Accordingly, the brutal killing of stray dogs will be allowed again!

For months media is spreading hatred against street dogs, and intentionally causes fear and hatred towards the dogs. The state has almost no interest in a humane reduction of stray animals, the prices at the veterinary clinics for neutering are very high considering the standards and the high rate unemployment in Bosnia. To some people, monthly salary in Bosnia is as nearly as high as the cost of a castration is.

We must act now, and protest, to help defenseless animals in Bosnia and Herzegovina! They have suffered enough and still continue to suffer!

We ask the authorities to finally set a central register for dogs, to end all puppy mills and backyard breeding, and to finally punish the abandonment of animals! We want the authorities to do their work and not go the easiest way to them, because it could lead to a thousandfold slaughter of dogs.

Our main goal is to prevent the suspension of the law! Please help us mobilize all the friends, acquaintances, animal rights protectors, media, politicians,...

Animal cruelty pictures shock

Animal cruelty pictures shock..

PHOTOGRAPHS of horrific cruelty to dogs in an NT community have been posted on a Facebook page - and then hastily taken down as authorities tried to cover up the shocking scandal.
The pictures showed two animals believed to have been attacked with machetes by boys. Another was of a dog with a broken leg with the bone exposed.
A third was of an animal with all its fur eaten away by mange.
Another dog was photographed getting around the community without the use of its back legs, which were either broken or lame.
The photographs were posted on Facebook by Kristine Love, who works for an animal welfare agency on Groote Eylandt.
Wildlife volunteer Terri Wright said after seeing the pictures: "The suffering of the animals here is horrendous."

Call to eradicate New Zealand’s pet cats draws hisses from cat lovers

Call to eradicate New Zealand’s pet cats draws hisses from cat lovers..

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – Gareth Morgan has a simple dream: a New Zealand free of pet cats that threaten native birds. But the environmental advocate has triggered a claws-out backlash with his new anti-feline campaign.
Morgan called on his countrymen Tuesday to make their current cat their last in order to save the nation’s unique bird species. He set up a website, called Cats To Go, depicting a tiny kitten with red devil’s horns. The opening line: “That little ball of fluff you own is a natural born killer.”
He doesn’t recommended people euthanize their current cats — “Not necessarily but that is an option” are the site’s exact words — but rather neuter them and not replace them when they die. Morgan, an economist and well-known businessman, also suggests people keep cats indoors and that local governments make registration mandatory.
Morgan’s campaign is not sitting well in a country that boasts one of the highest cat ownership rates in the world.

Dogs end up in cooking pot at CNY

Dogs end up in cooking pot at CNY..

National attitudes towards dog meat vary. An upcoming paper by the Soi Dog Foundation, a non-governmental organisation working with many others to stop the trade, cites surveys showing that only a small minority of Thais eat dog meat and that most people oppose the trade.
But in Vietnam, more than 50 per cent are in favour of the trade. In South Korea, foreign condemnation of dog meat consumption has produced a backlash, stoking defiant Korean nationalism.
But Mr T and other campaigners - whether they are in South Korea or Thailand - have allies: a younger middle class that is increasingly sensitive to animal welfare issues, and the power of online social media.

PLEASE HELP GUS...victim of a shooting!

Boy's pet dog shot in the face at close range, donations sought..
http://www.tuscbargainhunter.com/article/20130121/NEWS/701219972/-1/tbh

A dog who wandered off his property and onto a neighbor’s was critically wounded when the neighbor chose to shoot the animal in the face at close range with a .22 caliber rifle.

The dog’s owner, who asked to remain nameless, was willing to surrender the dog for vet care under the guise of anonymity, according to Operation Warm and Cozy (OWC) director Julie Tripodi. “A friend of the family contacted me on Sunday, Jan. 20 to ask if I could assist in any way,” said Tripodi. “The dog is the pet of a 13-year-old New Philadelphia boy and his mother said she was not going to seek treatment for the dog. The boy is unable to pay for vet care himself and I wasn’t just going to let the dog die out there.”

Because the incident took place outside the city limits and the dog was on private property, the shooter did not break any laws, according to Tripodi. “What I don’t get is why he wouldn’t just call the sheriff,” said Tripodi. “To wound a non-threatening dog and just leave it to die is incomprehensible.”

The dog, named Gus, is a 2-year-old German Shepherd brindle boxer mix and has not eaten since Friday. “He is in pain and suffering,” said Tripodi. “I hope my efforts to save him are enough.”

Operation Warm and Cozy is a 501c3 nonprofit public charity organization dedicated to animals and pet owners in need. In addition to emergency intervention and care, they house abused, neglected and owner-surrendered dogs for as long as they need refuge before adoption at their no-kill sanctuary. They can be contacted by phone at 330-364-7190.

A mother and her two daughters starved a Staffordshire bull terrier until it was so hungry it was forced to eat its own bed.
Diane Martin, 55, Amy Martin, 21, and Chloe Martin, 22, kept the dog, Akita, caged in a room surrounded by its own faeces.

The dog was discovered emaciated and with overgrown claws in September last year by the RSPCA.
It had been digesting its own bed - which was made of plastic - and plastic was found to be in its faeces.
