Bad News: Charlie the AmStaff Could Be Euthanized as Early as New Year's Day

Bad News: Charlie the AmStaff Could Be Euthanized as Early as New Year's Day!
San Francisco refuses a rehab proposal for the dog who bit a police horse. David Gizzarelli, Charlie's owner, is fighting to save his beloved pet's life. The San Francisco City Attorney's Office is refusing the save the life of Charlie, the American Staffordshire Terrier who was sentenced to death after attacking a U.S. Park Service police horse in August. That means Charlie, who had no previous incidents of aggression, could be euthanized any time after New Year's Day. More than 109,000 people have signed a petition calling for Charlie's life to be spared. Follow the Help Save Charlie Facebook page for up-to-date information; we hope to report back with good news for Charlie and Gizzarelli.

    4. If anyone has a chance to email the powers that be I believe it would be helpful to keep up the pressure- here is the information...I don't know David but have been following this closely and think if we can just keep up the pressure they might just give in.... remind them that people might not want to visit their "fair" City, and if this is the way they treat their own citizens- how would they treat a visitor? Here are the different people that are involved ... I personally like emailing the Mayor @ http://www.sfmayor.org/ ...Maybe he will get tired of all this foolishness! Hopefully!

      PLEASE LET'S SAVE CHARLIE....

  2. Sadly, I can see why they would euthanise a dog that attacked a service horse, but that does not mean that it cannot be retrained.

    1. Unknown I dont know how you can see why they want euthanise Charlie because he got scared by the size of the horse and was scared and was just defending himself! Cant understand your way of thinking sorry and it doesnt mean he needs retrained when hes shown no aggression in the past.

    2. I agree with Lesley. The only person/creature I find at fault for the incident is the officer who guided his horse into an area that is for unleashed dogs to run & play. It seems every time I read some new statement from the "powers that be" who hold Charlie's life in their hands, they make the whole thing sound worse with every word. It is time for them to stop lying, lock their egos away & admit that Charlie is not a danger to anyone.

    3. AGREE, THIS TURNS POLITICAL AND LIFE OF A NON FAULT DOG IS AT ZEOPARDY, PLEA FOR CHARLIE!!! THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS THAN KILLING CHARLIE!!!

    4. Unknown....I would think that an officer that left a police dog in a hot car to suffocate would have gotten more than 3 days suspension for killing his partner... READ LINK--- This petition is closed... just a reminder of what happened in 2012 and let's hope it NEVER happens again.....LET'S NOT FORGET HARLEY!!!!!

  3. We don't euthanize their children if they misbehave why are they allowed to euthanize our pets ? To many of us our pets are our children ! And I think it's wrong that the law thinks that they can do anything they like. There are to many cops killing our pets and it needs to stop !

  4. If the dog has a home and an owner and a plan, it's cruel to kill the dog for thinking a horse is dangerous and biting it. You can train a dog about that pretty easily.

  5. I'm sick of this word 'euthanise'. Euthanasia is a mercy killing - and this is anything but merciful.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I agree but I don't understand why it is okay for the horse to be in the dog park either. I feel the officer is partly at fault. Not all people run away in fear at something new, why would ANY dog, who feels it needs to protect its owner? I believe in retraining also.

    1. Agreed! Good points made in this post! It seems to me that euthinizing ( killing) this man's dog (best friend) is pure retribution for the anger the officer is feeling for his friend (horse) being bitten. I agree that the horse should not have been in the dog park as well as for the officer having angry feelings that his horse was hurt. Put the anger to good use. Retrain the dog. He is a good boy that was startled and trying to protect someone he loved. Killing him will just make another wrong. Please rethink.

  8. Please give this dog a chance to live.It doesn't deserve to be put to sleep. He needs to be trained like any animal that gets trained and just like children who misbehave learn proper conduct from parents.Give animals a chance.Give Charlie a chance. He deserves it.

  9. Doesn't Charlie deserve another chance? Mike Tyson wasn't killed when he bit off a part his opponent's ear. Charlie deserves another chance. The Officer should have used better judgement.

  13. This is such a disgrace beyond words. Most dogs I know would fear bite a horse. Anyone riding any horse in an off leash area should know that not all dogs respond well the first time they see a horse. It's only because Charlie is a pit bull that they are strong-arming and in the end, Charlie loses? I'm disgusted and I hope Kharma gets all involved in his "euthanasia". I would at least ask for mercy during the euth and ask that he be sedated first and that someone who actually knows how to properly give an injection, euth him. Is there any hope left at all that his life can be spared??

  14. Please, give Charlie another chance. Mike Tyson got another chance when he bit a part of his opponent's ear off. Mike is human and he should be setting a good example.

  15. Im sure charlie just acted out of protection and fear...a horse is huge compared to a dog...Wouldnt any of us be fearful and react in a defensive and protective way, if we were confronted with a situation, where we felt fearful and unsure if we or our loved ones were in danger... Humanbeings...if thats what you can call them, that feel it is the answer to put so many innocent animals on death row each and every day. Have no moral values...no heart. It is sickening, shameful !!!!!!

  16. Ha...look at Michael Vic...He continues to play football and make millions of dollars after what he did...But lets kill Charlie for a natural response and no other history of such an act.. This world is a very sad and dissapointing place and so are most of the people in it.!!!!!!

  18. The area where the officer/horse is an open area consisting of large amount of property. The officers on horse patrol this area.It is where people children dogs etc all come together. You are putting yourself in liability to let your dog run loose.Ive seen the prop. The horse was severely injured.David was involved in a criminal felony case before this happened. The city has offered an arrangement so that David can keep Charlie. So ask yourself why doesnt he take it if it will save Charlies life.Others that WERE allies have questioned his motives. One said they hoped David saved Charlie while he(David)bask in the limelight.Shows what happens when you dont get all the facts.I personally recieved a letter from ACC explaining what they could talk about.David on the otherhand can speak about it all which he has not done.

  19. i cant belive the person that said this ""Sadly, I can see why they would euthanise a dog that attacked a service horse, but that does not mean that it cannot be retrained" the horse was inside the dog area!!! a Park Police Officer named Eric Evans rode his recently transported thoroughbred race horse "Stoney" onto Crissy Field and into the area where Charlie and the other dogs were playing. so the horse was inside the dog play area- the dog freaked my dogs dont like horses. the horses scare them so when horses pass by the house or are at the park i have to bring them in or hold them tight

  20. CHARLIE DID NOTHING WRONG IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. THE DAMN HORSE AND RIDER SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN THE OFF LEASH PARK IN THE FIRST DAMN PLACE. CHARLIE ACTED OUT OF FEAR NOT FIGHT. WHY, IF THE OWNER HAS A REHAB PROPOSAL, I HAVE READ IT AND IT GIVES EVERY ONE THE BEST OPTIONS. ARE THESE PEOPLE JUST KILL HAPPY,KILL FOR THE THRILL OF TAKING A LIFE. MICHAEL VICK GOT A SECOND CHANCE TO PLAY FOOTBALL AND HE IS ONE OF THE WORST OF HUMAN KIND. WHY NOT CHARLIE??? WHY DOES HE NOT GET A SECOND CHANCE? THE HORSE WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED AND FROM WHAT I HAVE READ WILL NOT HAVE ANY LASTING AFFECTS OF THE INCIDENT. AGAIN, WHY DO THEY FEEL CHARLIE DESERVES TO DIE FOR ACTING OUT OF FEAR? I TRULY BELIEVE THERE IS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR THE PEOPLE THAT WANT TO MURDER CHARLIE.

  24. This is so damned sad to read and even think about. Another Wicca and Lennox? Charlie is not a pit bull and is a beloved family pet who of course was frightened by a horse many times his size and weight. Who wouldn't be? Release Charlie to his owner with the provisional training but again, the horse and officer should NOT have been in that off-leash park. Charlie didn't attack other dogs - he was threatened by the horse and rider. Complete misunderstanding and injustice. Let Charlie go home please.

  26. They need to retrain the police officer. He was not where he belonged; the horse had no business being there; the dog had every right to be where he was. How are regular people supposed to train their dog about horses? That expectation is ridiculous. Train your horse to avoid dogs and train that officer to avoid dog parks!

  28. The truth to the story is that the city has given the owner David the option to release Charlie to a rescue. David has proven time and time again he is not a responsible owner. 2 months before the incident animal control had Charlie because the owner was arrested for felony assault. And in animal controls care Charlie was neutered and vaccinated because during the whole time David the owner never did any of that. And now Charlie has been sitting in a cage for months because David basically feels that if he can't have his dog, then put Charlie to sleep. David has even tried to promote his own acting career on the Help Save Charlie page by telling people to go to the imdb.com web page and raise his star rating, and he has also said that if his career also benefits from this situation, then what is the harm in that. The fact is for David, this has never been about Charlie. It has been about himself. The Lexas Project and Ceasar Milan have both called David's character into question.

    1. I will not waste my time disputing the inaccuracies in your post, I will only say that everyone needs to do their own research. I did the research and my conclusion is that Charlie should go home w/ David, the officer should be disciplined for his stupid and dangerous behavior, the city should apologize to Charlie and David, and the rescues trying to take Charlie should be ashamed!

      Delete
  29. Once you read the accurate information on this sad case there is no conclusion other than Charlie should go home with David! The officer who took the thoroughbred retired racing horse into an area that allows off leash dog on the horse's SECOND day on the job, should be disciplined! The city owes Charlie and David an apology, and the rescue groups trying to take Charlie should be ashamed!

The dog knew that it was wrong for the policeman to be aggressive against those harmless people. I'll bet that dog didn't live to see the end of the day. It was a photograph that went viral on the Internet.
